There are retros and then there are retros. While once upon a time the label unequivocally meant ‘one-to-one reissue’, nowadays the term is used more loosely. Sometimes it can seem like the design version of Chinese whispers, where each copy of a copy deviates a fraction further from the original mould. The last time we saw this colorway hit retailers was back in 2011 featuring an updated 23 ‘PE’ branding to mirror other classic AJ5 releases.

Simply one of the brand’s most versatile offerings with its distinctive colorway, black comprises its majority, which is applied on the nubuck upper and midsole unit. Pops of grey are seen on the signature netting and reflective tongue to pronounce the stealthy build, while shimmering silver accents are prominent on the shark teeth-inspired component on the midsole, which also incorporates subtle Black speckling to give the model more appeal.

This time around, the Black Metallic 5s stick to OG tendencies, re-introducing the patented Nike Air branding in white heel stitching while a remastered attention to details brings the 1990 classic back to the basics. This retro harks back to a halcyon era for both basketball and basketball shoes making, this AJ5 is a must for any self-respecting Jordan fan.

How comfortable are Air Jordan 5s?

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the Jordan 5, 7.5 in terms of comfort. The Jordan 5 silhouette may be heavy, but they’re extremely soft inside, and the tongue is thick and cushiony. For this reason, I would recommend them for those long days when you’re constantly on your feet.

How do you care for Air Jordan 5s?

The Air Jordan 5 is made from nubuck leather; to keep them clean, I spray them with a sneaker protector before wearing them outside. After wearing them, I remove any dirt using a nubuck brush and return them to their original box, mainly so they don’t get dusty.

Air jordan 5 history?

Introduced to the world by Spike Lee’s iconic character Mars Blackmon, the AJ5 was released in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 dropped in four colorways during its initial run. It was inspired by a World War 2 Mustang fighter jet and featured a reflective 3M tongue, mesh netting on the tongue and side panels as well as a unique set of lace locks. More Link to:Nike history
